Accelerated “PwC – UCY Flying Start Programme” to acquire the Chartered Accountant’s professional qualification
PwC Cyprus, the University of Cyprus (UCY) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), within the framework of their cooperation, are implementing the pioneering “PwC – UCY Flying Start Programme” in Cyprus for the first time. This is an innovative, accelerated programme giving students in the Accounting and Finance department of the UCY the opportunity to combine their academic studies with work experience at PwC and to acquire the Chartered Accountant’s (ACA) professional qualification from the ICAEW a year earlier than other university graduates.
Students interested in joining the “PwC – UCY Flying Start Programme” must have a minimum average grade of 7.5/10 on the completion of their second year of studies at the UCY. After going through PwC’s selection procedure, the successful students will work for two periods of five months in PwC’s Assurance department during the third and fourth year of their studies. The professional experience of ten months will count towards the experience required by the ICAEW to acquire the ACA professional qualification. After graduating from the UCY and the successful completion of two five-month work placements at PwC’s Assurance department, the trainee accountants, who will already have been exempted from the first 12 ICAEW modules, will be employed on a full time basis by PwC with the aim of completing the remaining 3 modules and obtain the professional qualification.
The “PwC – UCY Flying Start Programme” is inspired by a similar initiative successfully implemented by PwC UK in cooperation with the ICAEW and specific UK universities.
It is worth noting that the long standing goal of PwC Cyprus is to undertake initiatives and implement programmes aimed at training and capitalising on new talent. The organisation has received a number of world and local distinctions for its innovative practices in human resources.
