DP World Limassol prepares for a leading role in oil and gas trade

The role of Cyprus as a maritime, energy and logistics hub was discussed by global shipping industry executives and experts during the 2nd Annual Capital Link Cyprus Shipping Forum. The Forum was held recently at Columbia Plaza in Limassol, in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Work, Mr. Marios Demetriades.

The new energy landscape and business investment opportunities that this creates were amongst the topics discussed. During the panel discussion, DP World Limassol General Manager Mr. Charles Meaby stated that the effective use of hydrocarbons has the potential to open up diverse, long-term benefits for the Cyprus economy. Mr. Meaby said “The products and services at DP World Limassol allow us to add value deeper along the oil and gas supply chain and bring greater optionality to this new energy landscape”.

Highlighting the importance of synergies in DP World Limassol’s partnerships and collaborations Mr. Meaby commented, “To meet the needs of and be a leader for this trade at DP World Limassol we seek to work with the Government and industry in being instrumental in delivering more benefits and enhancing the level of service available to the Oil and Gas sector at the port”.

DP World Limassol is currently focusing on the development of specialized landside infrastructure at Limassol port that will support the operations of companies in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus.

DP World is a leading enabler of global trade and an integral part of the supply chain.

In April 2016, DP World Limassol was awarded an exclusive 25-year concession to operate the multi-purpose terminal in Limassol. At the same time, P&O Maritime – a DP World subsidiary – was awarded an exclusive 15-year concession to provide the Port of Limassol’s full range of marine services.

The terminal’s various activities are divided among three multi-purpose quays. These activities include break-bulk, general cargo, ro-ro and oil and gas services, in addition to the array of services involved in operating Limassol’s brand-new passenger terminal. DP World Limassol also provides a stable, secure and responsibly organised environment for this major transit hub, through which cargo passes to and from destinations spread across the eastern Mediterranean.

As is the case in all locations where DP World operates, DP World Limassol forms an integral part of the local community and employs a growing workforce, regularly generating new job opportunities.
