Messages continue pouring in from foreign leaders for Anastasiades re-election
Heads of states and governments have sent congratulatory messages to President Nicos Anastasiades for his re-election in Sunday`s run-off election in Cyprus. Anastasiades , backed by the ruling Democratic Rally (DISY) party, secured 215.281 votes or 55.99% of the vote.
In a message Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his congratulations to President Anastasiades for his re-election.
“To a large extent due to your personal efforts the Russian-Cypriot relations have been developing very successfully.
I count on a further substantive dialogue and a constructive joint work with you for further strengthening the wide range of bilateral relations”, Putin says in his congratulatory message.
“I wish you good health and new successes in your responsible activity as the head of state”, his message reads.
In a message the Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy Brey expresses his congratulations for Nicos Anastasiades
re-election, stating that his electoral victory “confirms the confidence that the Cypriot people placed on you and represents a triumph for the European Peoples Party as a whole”.
“I am convinced that your work as head of Government will allow us to continue strengthening both our bilateral relations as well as our strategic agreement within the European Union and the other international organizations of which we are part of”, Rajoy says.
Spanish Premier also expresses his hope that during President Anastasiades` new term in office, “the reunification of the island will advance in accordance with the principles of the international law and the resolutions of the United Nations”.
“I hope to have the opportunity to congratulate you personally as soon as possible”, Rajoy says.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Italy, Paolo Gentiloni, in his congratulatory message to the President, expresses certainty that he will continue the efforts to promote Cyprus’ interests in various areas noting that his re-election paves the way for further enhancing the already close cooperation between Cyprus and Italy.
President Anastasiades had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday, during which she congratulated him for his re-election. They discussed how to further enhance and deepen the two countries` bilateral relations and cooperation in all areas and also expressed their common will to have a meeting soon, a presidency press release issued here today says.
A UK Government spokesperson told the Cyprus News Agency: “The two leaders agreed our bilateral cooperation would continue to go from strength to strength, and they looked forward to meeting at the March European Council.”
Serbia will continue to be a responsible and trustworthy partner willing to further develop bilateral and especially economic relations with Cyprus, and I look forward to further strengthening our bilateral ties, says in a congratulatory message to President Anastasiades the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.
Vucic says that the results of the elections in Cyprus confirm Anastasiades` reputation as an experienced and responsible politician who responds to the expectations and interests of his people.
He also reiterates its gratitude to Cyprus for its principled stance regarding the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and the support for Serbia`s EU course.
