Visit of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to the University of Nicosia
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands Ms Nathalie Jaarsma, visited the University of Nicosia, on Thursday, 28th of September 2017 and had a meeting with Professor Philippos Pοuyioutas, Rector of the University. During the meeting, possible areas for collaboration in Higher Education were explored. The Ambassador stressed out that the vision of the European Union can only be realized through synergies between various organizations for mutual benefit. Ms Jaarsma briefly presented the Dutch education system and provided general information about Dutch universities operations, research and education.
The Rector of the University of Nicosia presented the University and his strategy for internationalization and highlighted its great success in offering cross-border education. More specifically, he referred to the leading position of the University of Nicosia in relation to distance learning (eLearning), the six joint programmes of study offered in collaboration with ten well known universities in the world (including five Greek Universities) and finally the establishment of the first Medical School in Cyprus in collaboration with St George’s University, London.
Ms Jaarsma and Professor Pouyoutas, after having discussed extensively the national qualifications frameworks and education systems of the two countries, as well as the strengths of the University of Nicosia and corresponding Dutch universities, explored possible partnerships in the field of Higher Education. Rector Pouyoutas pointed out that, in line with the University’s strategy for internationalization, the University of Nicosia aims at establishing collaboration agreements with top universities in the Netherlands for offering joint distance learning programmes.
